Award winning hip-hop artist Derek Minor has released the concept video for his latest single titled “Free”. The new single was inspired by the recent murders of several African-Americans by law enforcement including the killing of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge. The new single, which was written, produced, and mastered within three hours, addresses the violence and disparities in our culture based on race.
We’ve been too occupied with ourselves to be ‘united’, shares Minor. “We need real reform and real solutions and it starts with ALL of us. I wanted to bring that idea to life in the video for my song ‘Free’. We may not have all of the answers, but if there’s going to be change, I’m convinced we have to do it together.”
The video has Derek in chain tied to a tree and with people around him going on with their normal live without knowing someone is in chains… But they all later ‘Woke Up’ and came to his help to set him ‘Free‘ from the chains.
The concept video for “Free,” was conceptualized by Minor and directed by Patrick Tohill and was filmed a few days after the single was penned.
All proceeds and contributions connected tot the single will be given to The Expectations Project to help end education inequality for students. Go to http://hopeforstudents.org to get involved in creating positive change in our nation.
