The Duties of Christian Parents
Christian parenting can be quite complicated especially in this day, time and age. The idea of raising a godly child in an ungodly world is regarded lightly and only a few true believers take out time to bring up their children in the way that pleases the Lord.
A lot of Christian couples stumble upon the entire concept of Christian without fully understanding certain godly parenting principles. Before deciding to get married or start having children as Christian couples, it is important to completely comprehend the biblical roles of parents in a child’s life.
A lot of times, we have the misconception that as parents, the responsibilities owned to our children include clothing, shelter, education, food, and care. These are all important. However, without the greatest responsibility, we will have a world filled with spiritually clueless children.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you
and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night.
In this versus, the Bible admonishes us to teach our children the Word of God. Point them to God and show them even through your actions the way of the Lord. This doesn’t mean that there is nothing else to be done. But if we truly live by the word of God, all these necessary things will be done as well.
Christian Parenting
Parents are the first and primary contact children have with the world. In every child, there is a generation. Therefore Christian parenting goes beyond just training up the child, it also means you are influencing a generation either for good or bad.
Joel 1:3 Make sure you tell your children,
and your children tell their children
And their children.
Don’t let this message die out.
If your goal is to train your children for heaven and to reverence God all the days of their lives, then there are some duties that should not be left out. Here we go
Naturally, children are born with a decided bias towards evil. Proverbs 22:15 says Young people are prone to foolishness and fads; the cure comes through tough-minded discipline. With this in mind, we should train up our children in the right way and not the way they way. Because if you let them choose, they will choose wrong.
Self will come naturally to children and it is your responsibility as a Christian parent to resist it. Imbibe in them the characteristics of a godly child is what Christian parenting is all about.
There is a difference between spoiling a child and loving or caring for a child. In a bid to carry out these biblical parenting principles properly, you do not need to become a monster to your own child. Rather, train them up with care, chastise them patiently and let love be the silver thread that runs through all your conduct.
The Bible is complete in itself and nothing is left out. The Word of God is the complete handbook needed for Christian parenting. Training up your child to the knowledge of the Bible means training them up in the way of prayer. By doing so, you are inviting the Holy Spirit to take charge of all their affairs.
